The Georgia Partners of the Dignity in Schools Campaign Week of Action and Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School will offer a free seminar regarding school to prison pipeline issues, Saturday October 11 from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Gwinnett. Learn your rights as a parent and your children’s rights as students when faced with zero tolerance policies and life-changing discipline issues.
Children with disabilities and children of color are disproportionately likely to find themselves facing a juvenile justice tribunal for a first-time or minor school offense. Before zero tolerance policies, children found themselves in the principal’s office for minor disturbances but these days misbehaving children find themselves arrested and sentenced in juvenile courts. The results are often disastrous to their academic career. A single mistake or lapse in judgment shouldn’t change the entire course of a child’s life. Get the facts, and learn how to make a difference.
