Friends of Gwinnett SToPP – if you have been curious about our Parent Leadership Training, but worried about the commitment of an eight-month program, we have good news for you!
Starting this year, we are offering each training session ala carte to Gwinnett parents interested in learning about education advocacy. Whether you are an active PTA member, a Local School Council member, a teacher or a concerned parent or caregiver, you now have the opportunity to get a more wholistic understanding of how public school education works and what you can do to ensure that children in your care get the attention and fair treatment they deserve.
This will be the fifth year we have offered this important program. Quite simply, we offer the only program in the state and one of the few in the nation that provide you with direct access to leaders in education policy and law. You will meet Federal Department of Education experts, education lawyers, national policy makers and well-known authors and analysts who can provide valuable information about trends and changes in how your children will be expected to learn and behave.
We still want to encourage our friends to fully invest themselves in the program by registering for the full program which includes a two-day retreat, monthly training sessions and a community project. For this reason, we provide this training to full-program participants for only $50. If you simply are not able to get on board at that level of commitment, you can now attend individual sessions for only $20 (or $30 if you would like us to provide lunch). Sessions include:
- Education Advocacy Today (Retreat Day 1)
- Becoming an Education Advocate (Retreat Day 2)
- Local School Councils and Education Advocacy
- How Harsh Discipline Affects Children
- How Race and Ability Affect Education
- PBIS & Restorative Practices – Alternatives to Harsh Discipline
- School Discipline and the Courts
Registration is currently open for both full-program participants and individual sessions. Join us today by clicking here. We look forward to working with you this year to ensure that all our children have a successful school experience.
